Nursing service involves providing total health care which is aimed at satisfying nursing needs of clients, their relations and their communities. The department, under the headship of Mrs. Oluwakemi O. Ajide (Deputy Director of Nursing -DDN), is the largest workforce and as such is the heartbeat of this reputable institution.

HOURS OF DUTY

The department runs twenty four (24) hours duty, including morning, afternoon and night shifts with call duties in some specialties.

SCOPE OF RESPONSIBILITIES

  • World class Nursing Services are rendered at all levels.
  • Assessment, planning and providing quality, effective and efficient professional nursing care to clients attending the institution.
  • Providing evidence based nursing care through the use of nursing process.
  • Grooming of nursing students and other students on clinical posting.
  • Use of the hospital resources in a cost effective manner.
  • Collaborating with other health care professionals to ensure quality health care services.

LEVEL OF PERFORMANCE AND ACHIEVEMENTS

In recent times, we have attained excellence in:

  • Commencement of Internship programme for Nurses.
  • Infection prevention across the clinical settings.
  • Reduction in patients’ length of stay on admission.
  • Adoption of and improvement on advanced wound care techniques.
  • Increased IGR through the Central Sterile Supplies Department (CSSD).
  • Improved and up-to-date use of Standardized Nursing Languages with excellent referenceto the hospital for guide and research on use of electronic and print version of Nursing Process (with NNN: NANDA-I, NIC, & NOC).

STAFF STRENGTH AND PERSONNEL

There are about 750 seasoned and experienced nursing professionals of diverse specialties, working within the main hospital complex in Ilorin and outstation facilities including Federal Staff Clinic at Federal Secretariat Fate road, Ilorin and Comprehensive Health Centers at Esie (Kwara State), Ihima (Kogi State) and Kishi (Oyo state) respectively. There are also about 184 health attendants/Nurse Assistants all functioning under the department of Nursing Services.
